Chatting
with my friend Steve…. Me…”I am going to hear Karen Berg speak
tonight….Want to go?” Steve…”Sure.” Steve…”Going to see Marianne
Williamson earlier. Want to go?” …Me…”Sure.”
Thus my day plans are made. Coffee…lots. Perfect. Shower, dress and off to the bus stop. Trip down to 2nd Avenue and 7th Street. Middle Church. Get there a few minutes to the 2pm scheduled start. Place is packed. Seats found and secured in the last middle pew. A few minutes later Steve jumps over back of pew and is seated. Then it is Marianne. If you know her…she wrote “A Return to Love” One of her passages changed my life and how I view things forever. The quote,
“ Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate. Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure. It is our light, not our darkness, that most frightens us. We ask ourselves, who am I to be brilliant, gorgeous, talented, fabulous? Actually, who are you not to be? You are a child of God. Your playing small doesn’t serve the world. There’s nothing enlightened about shrinking so that other people won’t feel insecure around you. We are all meant to shine, as children do. We were born to make manifest the glory of God that is within us. It’s not just in some of us; it’s in everyone. And as we let our own light shine, we unconsciously give other people permission to do the same. As we’re liberated from our own fear, our presence automatically liberates others.”
It was wonderful to see and hear her and her ideas about empowerment of the populace….Take back our government. Such brilliance and power in her talk. We are once again inspired! Two hours and thunderous applause later we are back on the street and very hungry. Luckily we are only 2 blocks away from Steve’s favorite Indian Restaurant. Delicious and plentiful we enjoy it and the conversation that flows so freely.
Too soon it was time to move again. Taxi to the other side of Manhattan Sheraton. This time to see and hear Karen Berg, author of “God Wears Lipstick”, and co-founder of the Kabbalah Center. The hall is packed and prior to Karen, I get to see lots of folks that I have missed the last few months. So much light and joy is shared.
I received wisdom from two amazing women within hours of each other. Women from different generations, beliefs, and backgrounds. Yet each of them gave me great insight. One of the most amazing gifts of living in NYC is that everyone comes here. All the great minds, and talents of the day are going to be appearing and /or speaking here. Most many times. Everything is here sooner or later.
More food, this time Japanese and with two girlfriends. We too have lots to say and share. Food is good, company is better. Day has turned to night and now its time to return home. Car ride and into the building and up the elevator…and just a few minutes to my very comfortable bed.
Weekend over…………
